New Delaware Chick Mom

Welcome! You are going to love being a chicken mom, it's addictive! I got my first 2 Delawares this year (they are 8 weeks now), and just ordered 2 more for pick up in a couple of weeks. I am really liking how friendly they are compared to some of my other ladies. My hope is to start breeding them if I get a nice rooster (I usually get rid of my cockerels).

So far they have been very nice and I am a bit addicted already! They're 3 1/2 weeks old now and several of them will come running whenever I open the brooder. They want to be picked up! Sometimes they'll chirp like something is wrong until I come and talk to them also.
I picked Delawares because their breed is generally considered 'friendly' and I've made an effort to get them used to me and being handled. I've known folks with some crazy scary chickens and wanted to avoid that!
Good luck getting a nice cockerel! I've got one person willing and able to take a rooster so I'm hoping to be able to 'borrow' him from time to time for my girls. I can't keep a rooster all the time as I live in the city and am just barely able to place a coop in a spot on my property that meets the city codes for distance from neighbors. Don't want anyone irate about a crowing rooster. ;)
