Hi,
I rescued a little duckling that I believe to be a Khaki Campbell. I'm a counselor at a local farm camp, and they had one of their 16 ducklings bitten by the farm dog as he stuck his head out where he shouldn't of. They were going to euthanize her, but as I run a wildlife clinic and have poultry experience, I just had to take her:rolleyes:

Anyway, now I have a single duckling who is very bonded to me wants to follow me everywhere, and I'm worried she's going to become attached to the point that she can't be alone (although she'll have my chickens when she's older).

Anyway, do you guys know what the personality of a Khaki is like?

And if anyone has any tips on duck care that would be much appreciated as well! Thanks:)

You are very right, I would get her a friend, maybe two! She may bond with the chickens, but I am inexperienced with that. Since it doesn't seem like you are raising her with your chickens, I imagine it would take quite some time for her to become accustomed to them. I have two ducks and they are very bonded with each other, and would be so lonely and bored without the other. We are currently transitioning them to being alone outside and eventually they will cry for either my husband or I to show our face, perhaps if we had a bigger flock they would not do this. The more you coddle and be around your ducky the harder it will be for it to become independent (which I assume is the goal).

I'm a relatively new duck owner, this is my first pair! But over the past four months I have learned a lot. We have two Swedish Ducks, so I'm not too sure of the disposition on specifically a Khaki Campbell, but I notice on here that more ducks can be generalized in their behaviors.

Best of luck! Post some pictures, they grow up fast.

Always best to have at least 2 duckling grow up together any chance you can get another one from the farm camp? they can live okay with chickens but they really thrive if they have another of their own to hang out with.

Bless you for taking this lil one and getting her healed up.

Another thing you have to take into consideration is if this lil one is a drake once they get hormonal they can go after chickens [hens] and try and breed if they succeed this can be a death sentence for a hen. So you may end up having to have 2 separate areas for duck/chickens depending on sex.
and chickens can be extremely harmful to ducklings even full size ducks if they take a mind to it. So introductions have to be done carefully and with supervision. I have geese ducks and chickens all together but During breeding season I have to keep a close eye on everyone.

I never knew about the breeding season thing! I'll be as careful as possible. I think the farm got them sexed as girls, but I'm not sure. I do have another run if it comes to that :)

I honestly don't think it's possible for me to get another duck. I'm pretty maxed out when it comes to animals.

However, my bunny and small parrot seem to enjoy Ivy's company quite a lot (Ivy's favorite place to hang out is on my bunnies head, and my parrot likes having a similar sized birdie companion to sit with.) Would there be any way for her to safely bond with my other animals? She only has direct contact with them under supervision, but she's in the same room as them. I think it would be especially helpful if she bonds with my bunny, as he's out in a run during the day so the duck could hang out with him.

Thanks for the help!!! I'll post pictures asap!!!:D

Can someone help me with the breed of this duck? My husband got her for me for Mother's Day and I'm so curious as to what breed this is. She is around 4 months old.
