New Duckies?

I was at work one day and someone called about a large bird in the road. I get there and it's a huge brown pelican. It's obviously sick as it's just walking circles in the middle of the road. I pick it up and put it in the back of my work car. It's wing span was so wide the tips of it's wings stuck out the windows...lol. Long story short I called the state agency that I thought could help out. Get this.....they said they only take in "raptors". I asked what I was supposed to do with this huge bird in my car. They pretty much said they did not care. I went and found a large containment pond and let it go.

Point is I would not worry to much about the legality of things unless you live in one of those "hardcore" states....and that's putting it politely as I can...lol. If you take in the birds in good faith I sure no one will make a big deal of things. Good luck and I hope they turn out ok.

Thank you so much and I'm glad that at least someone cared for that pelican. The ducks are doing well today and my littles are very excited and already understanding that we will let them leave if their parents are found or when winter comes. It seems to me they are officially part of the family.

It may not be the lawful thing to do but as a human it's the right thing to do. If you don't do anything but give them a safe haven and feed them until they can fend for themselves it would be better then just leaving them on their own. If anything it will teach your kido's some life lessons. Good for you.
