New Ducklings

Nothing happened to the ducks, but yesterday sometime in the evening while I was at the store, something came into my yard and destroyed over half of my chicken flock.

I am so sorry to hear this. If you can I believe I’d keep everyone up in their run for a while. Did they kill and leave them laying?

We don’t have a run. Out of the 8 that were taken I only found 3 bodies in the yard. One of them the head was completely severed and laying a few inches from the body.

If I was you I'd go to the Predator and pests forum and ask what kind of predator your dealing with. And pictures help too. My little OEGB roo was killed this past summer and I went there to verify that it was a hawk I had a pic to show. I was right and most likely he was protecting his hens. Scary thing when this happens they return. Do you have a game camera?

Unfortunately I don’t have pictures. The animal came back and took the body of the headless chicken and left the head. But I think it’s either a fox or a bobcat.

Can you put one up all you need is plastic fencing and those fence posts that stick into the ground. Put it around the front of your coop so the chickens can run into the coop if they get scared or something comes around. I am afraid your going to lose them all soon.

That is going to be hard to deal with. Got any traps? trap this varmint before it takes the rest including the ducks.

They are all locked up in the coop for now. I’m to scared to let them out. I plan on going to the farm store later to see what they have in terms of making a cheep run, and seeing what kind of big animal traps they have available.

I forgot to post this when it happened, but unfortunately a few days after the massacre the ducks passed away. I have some more little water loving fluff balls arriving in the mail today.
