New Fabrics Today! Pics ~Hand Quilting Complete!! New Pics! ~

We've had an old Kenmore sewing machine for years. It always intimidated me and I never could get the hang of using it. Dh used it to sew stripes on his uniforms, LOL. Did everything by hand till a fabulous group of friends, led by MissPrissy, gave me a surprise Brother machine that is very easy to use.

P.S. my vacuum cleaner hates me, too.

That's it then. My sewing machine is a kenmore as well. it's not me! it's not me!

...and today, the 26 year old elextrolux died. I know my husband will pull some sort of magic and fix it...again, but if it stays dead...

maybe I can replace it with a friendlier one.

Wow! That is an amazing quilt! I can't believe you did all that hand stitching, it is so beautiful. Do you make quilts to sell? I hate asking because I know how much time goes into them, it has to be hard to put a price tag on them. I have been looking at quilts since we bought our new house. I want one on a quilt rack in my front room so badly!

You know, this is the very first quilt that someone commissioned me to do. I've always made them, then given them to someone or tried to sell them later. The watercolor 9 patch is also a commissioned quilt for a friend, coincidentally, also in California like this one's new owner. I sort of hate to take on a project and be "obligated", if you know what I mean, but tell me what you're thinking about, what size, type, etc. I don't do any curved piecing at all, or blocks with teensy pieces, etc. My hands and eyes just won't do that anymore. You can imagine that I can't take on more than one project at a time. My poor fingers are a mess from this one!

I don't blame you for not taking on more than one project at a time! I have no talent what so ever, so I can't even imagine the time and dedication doing a quilt like this would take. I am looking for something in dark reds, golds and olives ideally, but I am very eclectic, just one of those I like what I like kind of people. I don't have any pattern in mind. That would be up to you. And for the size? Well it is going to be for display on a quilt rack, but I do have 3 full size beds in my house. So full size I guess. If you are ever interested in selling or being commisioned for another one just let me know. I would be happy to pay material cost up front.

My mother has several Kenmore and she LOVES them until she got a Serger.....that's a different story!

She had those Kenmores for DECADES and still has one of them to this day when it is required.

I have my own sewing machine but have no idea what to do to start off, something small I am sure of! Unlike those simple sew the backing on type of materials that already has the top part all done. It felt "phony" making one of those and with the yarns here and there, the batting came off at the first gentle washings and it all would lump on the ends like it was pulled away from the center of blanket. Horrible!

It is something about me and the tension. I was standing next to my mother in laws machine and her tension messed up too! I can ruin the tension of anyone machine just by standing next to it.
(I guess when you are the center of the universe, the gravitational pull messes up the finer balance of machines

I am fine with just a needle and thread. It when these new fangled contraptions get involved that chaos unfolds. I am going to make a quilt this winter. Something very small and doable with a needle and thread. A pot holder maybe. Ewesheep be sure to keep me informed of your progress. Maybe we can do it.

we'll
be up with the professionals in no time! (ugh, time. I'll have to give up BYC.)

OH yeah, we can do it!

However with me I can never keep it in a straight line, it ends up crooked!

I got a mind to use one of the white fabrick pencils, draw the stenciling in EACH square on wrong side, where I would sew the pieces together by hand. Once it is done, the pencil marks will be gone when it is being washed. Is this do-able?

With a sewing machine, forget it, the tension and everything else would just go haywire on me. Even it is a brand new one! I've tried making a small square quilt and the pieces ended up crooked. UGH! However hand sewing seems like a very personal touch to it and you can look back and say I DID IT!
