New Fabrics Today! Pics ~Hand Quilting Complete!! New Pics! ~

I think they still have that same style, too. I'm going to use it on this quilt first and see. I've always marked the entire top before starting to quilt, but with this, I can mark when the batting is already in there, I think, so can mark as I go. I only mark designs, not when I do outline quilting, though.

I had done some pinwheel blocks, but decided they just didn't fit the mood of this particular quilt, so while waiting for the go-ahead from my customer, I am making them into a small lap/baby quilt. It rained all day long so not much else to do except quilt, so I made some progress on Cetawin's chicken block tablecloth and did this, too. The three rows aren't sewn together yet, but here it is:

I love the new project! For the problem with using the pencils, I use a piece of sandpaper under the top where I am marking. It keeps the fabric from slipping. I can't take credit for the idea though, I read it somewhere. Good luck with the rest of the project!

Done. I may see if anyone wants to buy this to do their own quilt. It could stand alone as a lap/baby quilt or be the center medallion on a larger quilt. Still waiting on my customer to tell me if he likes the border with the white in it. Now, back to quilting the tablecloth I'm making till he does.

The pieced border is attached and now, will add a blue border to tie it all in. It's the same blue used in the medallion--just laid the strips on the edges and will attach tomorrow. Then, decision time. What next? Maybe a 4" pieced border then bind it? It's about 67" square now. There will be no pillow tuck so it's okay for it to be a bit squarish.

Am thinking of this pieced border from the quilting assistant website and this page:

Not sure what colors would work, though. Maybe something else, but it needs to be simple like this one.

It makes this effect, and can be done in any colors or any size, either 3x3 or 6x6 or whatever.

If that won't work here, maybe just some purple-and-green checkerboard blocks placed edge to edge surrounding the quilt for the last pieced border would be better. Not sure what size would work, maybe a 6" block?

Do you still have the orange that is in the medallian? It would look great as the little block in the border as your plan with the green and the purple...from the medallian the a blue band. It would also give you a repeat of the secondary pattern you have in the star border with the blue.

If you go with the checkerboard idea with the green and purple, what about a 1 inch orange on each side then finish with the same blue
(blue, orange, checkerboard, orange, blue) then bind with the blue or the same color as the backing.

Of course, what you do depends on what size you want the final quilt to be...the more borders, the bigger the quilt. But, I'm a sucker for multi-band borders!

The Project is looking great, by the way.

I'm not sure I have enough of the deep gold, the one that shows up orange in the pics. It's really not orange, but boy, it looks like it, doesn't it? I am making a coverlet size for a queen, so don't want too many more borders. Was thinking make the checkerboard like is in the center of the stars, but with the deep purple and the darker green, then maybe one more solid strip (the deep gold, if I have enough). I have the blue border sewn on and mitered, but a head cold is kicking my butt today and I'm going to take a brief break before I start on the next pieced border.

It's called a Winged Four Patch. http://www.quilterscache.com/W/WingedFourPatchBlock.html

Kat
, I'm going with your suggestion. I am doing the deep orangey-gold 1.5" band, then the checkerboard with dark green and the deep purple, but I am thinking I don't have enough of that same gold for the next one and I know I don't have the blue--I used almost every single inch I had of that on the blue border. I have two sides of the gold-then-checkerboard attached (will have gold setting squares in the each corner). Am off to Walmart to see if there is any of those blenders fabrics there that will match. Have to do monthly groceries and my DH's back just went out while tending the chickens. Ugh. Poor guy.

Speckledhen, I agree, end with the dark that was in the center. It will frame all the bright in between. Absolutely love, love, love your creation. I'm inspired to post my chicken swap blocks and start a thread also. I've got to get the pieced body on one of these walls and take a pic. Stay tuned!
