His feet and legs seem to be in need of some scaly leg mite treatment, or maybe it is just the grainy photo.

So he isn't the friendliest bird in the bunch, but I have gotten a fairly close look at his legs. They don't look any different than the other birds, but maybe they all need it. They were living in some pretty disgusting conditions before we got them. My wife and I started referring to it as operation chicken rescue and I overhauled their coup as soon as we got it home. No roosting bars whatsoever, crowded, filthy litter, all factors i imagine that contribute to leg mites and other stuff. I think they had a real hard molt, or they were just losing feathers from stress, not experienced to be sure. I guess i don't know what I'm looking for to determine if there are leg mites.

Lucky chickens to have you rescue them!

To treat their scaly leg mites, you could use Ballistol animal spray: Treat in the evening wearing a head lamp and just touch their front while they are sitting on the roost at night. This will mak them stand up on their roost and you can easily spray the legs of each bird up to the featheres part without even having to grab them.
Spray 5 times (once every other day for 10 consecutive days) and the leg mites will be smothered. It might take a little longer for the legs to regain a neat appearance, but the crusts will come off a bit later on their own.

Some people use petroleum jelly or sunflower oil, but I found it too sticky and rather cumbersome to apply correctly.
