(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first chicken in high school. I hatched her myself and she has been with me for about 8 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have one hen and 6 hatching eggs incubating!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have Australorps (my favorite!)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I have always enjoyed the relationship we share. How much love and care I give them, determines (to an extent) how well they treat me. They supply me with fresh and healthy eggs, great fertilizer for my garden, and companionship. Raising backyard chickens also helps me maintain a more sustainable lifestyle that keeps me grounded.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy gardening, wild crafting, and living my best farm life!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I come from a family of six; I'm the oldest of three other siblings. We love the outdoors and are no strangers to animals. We've had many pets; if you can find it in a pet store we've probably had it.
I'm currently pursuing an education in osteopathic medicine. One day, I hope to treat patients with a more holistic approach. One that focuses on all aspects of health; mind, body, and soul.
My future plans are to retire to a simple farm life, but I couldn't wait to start so I'm doing a little bit of it now!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I learned about this community by doing research on raising chickens. I recently discovered BYC, and I'm glad that I have joined a community as enthusiastic about chickens as I am!
