Hello, and thanks in advance for any advice.
I recently (last week) lost my 9 year old chicken. I have one surviving bird, a cayuga duck that's also nine years old. She is faring well and eating and swimming and such, but recently has started quacking loudly as if she's calling for her chicken friend. I want to get her a companion, perhaps another older female duck.
My questions are: my current duck has had a limp for about a year now, and she can get around, but it takes her some time. Would a new duck see this as a weakness and attack her? Also, would my current duck accept a new duck, or would she simply wait for a chicken that won't come back? :(

Is your duck female? If it’s not and it’s a Drake, then make sure the new duck/s you get are at least 5 months old if they are females.
when you get a new friend duck , at first let them meet each other through a fence put some kind of separation fence for the first couple of days at least maybe two weeks when it looks like they love each other and lay next to each other through the fence then they can be together

Oh yeah wait I just noticed you said she’s quacking loudly so it’s gotta be a girl duck that’s good lol then get her another girl because if you get a boy(Drake) then she will be his only girlfriend and Drake’s need like at least four girlfriends if they only have one they injure them from too much mating
