My family and I are just getting started in our chicken raising journey! We've never owned chickens before, and are still trying to decide on what breed(s) will be the best fit for our family. We are able to have 5 hens on our property, and with 2 small children- soon to be 3 under 3 years old, we are trying to find the perfect fit for the kids. We are looking for a breed that will be good layers and gentle with the children, since they already view our neighbors hens as pets.

We love gardening- currently getting our garden dug up and seeds started. We are just trying to make the best of our current city surroundings and dreaming of the future when we can branch out and have some more land and more animals

Thanks for the 'welcomes!' We finally got our chicks today- 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 White Leghorns, and 2 Ameraucana. The kids are in love, even though they are so young they just adore the chicks. Wish us luck! I sort of feel a little in over our heads. Now to get hubby to get the coop built so when they are ready to be outdoors they have somewhere to go!
