Ok, ladies . I am getting really worried. I have 26 coming from McMurray this Sunday - Wed. I spoke to my PO and they aren't open on Sunday?? I live in Calif and will hope for the best at this point. All the posts about dead babies is worrisome.

Mine are coming then as well. Can you call the PO at the airport? They are open Sundays, I know they are here in Oregon. If you can get them at the airport...do it!!

It's up to the post office if they'll call on Sunday or not. Some people are reasonable and understand that animals are a special situation and need care. Others...not so much. It probably wouldn't hurt to call the manager (not sure of the title for USPS) to let them know ahead of time, especially if you're worried about the storm. If they don't want to open the office for you, they could at least put the box somewhere warm.

I found a local hatchery that carries the Hamburgs, but they're out of stock with no expected date listed. I put in an email to see if I can pick up chicks since I'm in the area, and they're a small hatchery. We don't know if we want to risk another delivery right now. I've dealt with deaths on a ranch before, but my poor husband. He grew up in the city and never lost an animal until he was an adult. Bless him, though. After I sorted the chicks from the box and dealt with them dying for hours, he took over so I could have a break. I think my mom removed a couple this morning...she's even more far removed from farm life than he is. Actually, I think it has been a lot more difficult on the adults than our daughter. She just accepted each death, and just wanted to make sure we buried them with respect.

Here's a couple pics of my girls that are looking healthy. I've been checking in every hour or so, and have kept my daughter out so that they can stay calm. Btw, my husband just got off the phone. McMurray was nice about it and refunded us for 19 chicks. When he called the post office he was nice, but let them know we lost most of the order. He was explaining how they need to be warm, and the poor lady started crying on the phone. I'm glad that they know, and hopefully nobody else will lose that many.

Your little ones that are in the pictures are so cute. I am sorry you had to go through loosing so many and it was unnecessary for this to happen. IF people would just use that big thing on top of their shoulders once in a while things like this wouldn't have to happen. Sure hope these two cuties make it. Sorry for your loss.

I just got an email from Estes. I emailed them last night and asked if I could postpone my pick up date till nicer weather and I just checked and they replied they understood and would see me on the 16th of this month so I have two weeks till I can get mine now.

But glad I don't have to try and get them in this weather.

Thank you, Classicsredone.
I just called Mcmurray to check on PO policies. They mentioned if the chicks arrive on a Sunday, it could be at the Postal distribution center and could be 2 hours away. I would drive to keep the babies alive. I live in a smaller town, Paso Robles. Going back to the PO to find out more info tomorrow in hopes that my babies all arrive alive. I know it might be out of my hands to quarantee their survival, but at this point, will do all I can to accomplish this.
