New fuzzy butts coming!!

Yes I'd definitely 1) stop by the PO and ask about your chicks, and if they haven't received the shipment yet, maybe you could plan a lunch out with your son after school in town? Instead of driving all the way back? FYI we expect our chicks on Friday (next friday) and we live in MA. Any closer and we'd probably get them Thursday.

ChickadeeMom

What breeds did you get? VA is certainly closer to TX that MA for sure, but it would be so nice to get ours on Thursday and not friday!! I guess it depends on whether they ship tuesday or wednesday too. I assume that with our crazy assortment it'll be wednesday when they ship.

You guys wont believe it. It is 5:15 am. The phone just rang (I dont have one in my room so I had to run for it) and on the 3rd ring I catch it thinking it is an emergency.) It is the PO calling to say my chicks are in! I was pleasant of course but these folks are goofy for sure to call at that hour! So I will get them about 10:45, pick up the boy at 11:15 and hustle home. I got 1 partrige cochin my only cockerel, 5 EE's, 4 cuckoo marans, 3 RIR and 2 Jersey Black Giants. My motive was to have a bouquet of birds and bouquet of eggs. I think I can sell enough eggs to friends to cover my feed and the rest I will send to a local food pantry. Thats the plan anyway.

the PO does that, the first time we got chicks they called in a panic at 3 am!

Woo hoo! So happy it worked out for one trip to town. Turn the heat on in the brooder and get the feed and water ready too run around in circles, jump up and down doing the chicken dance.

Keep checking your order status on McMurray's website. When they ship, they post a tracking number there. The number itself is really useless, because the PO is not good about updating. But the presence of it on the website will tell you to be on alert for delivery!!!!!

Mine came on a Saturday, but weren't expected until Sunday or Monday. So be ready! Your peeps will be here soon!

I just hope they all make it this time! I don't think I can handle another "massacre" I just want alive and thriving new fuzzy butts...I am now down to 3. Good thing is, the 3 are doing very well!! I am checking every day!! I think I may be driving my DH crazy!!

I asked at the post office and they told me that if I had the hatchery include a time with the phone number, they would call after that time. Otherwise, they call AS SOON AS THE CHICKS ARRIVE and it could be as early as 5AM. We're pretty rural so I guess they're used to peeping boxes.

Aww Tami so sorry that you lost another. Hopefully those three will grow into very hardy chickens. One of our friends used to work at a hatchery. When we told her about the box of death, she said the survivors were probably at the bottom of the pile. Kind of gross to think they were piled under dead and dying birds.

Thank you...It was tragic. These 3 are gonna do fine, I just know it!!

Actually the 3 that have survived were at the top! All of the dead ones were smooshed to the bottom and the ones I tried to save were just way to cold and too far gone. I will post a pic of the 3 survivors!!
