New Fuzzy Butts!!!

I love my Rhode Island Red hens...they are so friendly. I wallk to their pen to feed them and they make all kinds of noises talking to me. good luck with your girls!

Thanks, everyone! I actually chose the RIRs over NHRs because of their friendly disposition and egg-laying capabilities. I really wanted hens that would have a lot of personality and give us lots of eggs for breakfast, I'm so glad I picked them!

i agree, my Lucy is very sweet and loves people..she loves being around people - no matter how big or little...we keep them in a dog pen and a large dog house serves as their nesting site - lucy is the first one to jump on this dog house to get to our height level and greet us...she is the first one peeking out the back of the kennel to see if we're coming and the first one to meet us at the door, putting up such a fuss keeping us up on the latest backyard gossip...she is very friendly and brave - she escaped from the pen one day and I was sure a dog or something got her as I saw a few feathers here and there...we were on our way out and my husband said we should drive around the block and see if we can spot her...sure enough, people loving Lucy was spotted 3 houses down at our neighbors yard walking as though nothing is wrong..

I'm so sorry for your loss

they are truly amazing and whoever says you can't get attached to a chicken or vice versa has never owned a chicken!

Ut oh...looks like my babies are testing out their wings. Feed store said they are 2 weeks old, and they're hopping and flying around the brooder. Eeeek...I think it's time to put some wire on top of the box!

I'm starting to learn their little personalities already...there is one little girl in there who is very plucky and loves to explore. I put food in my hand and place it in the brooder for the girls to eat out of, and all but the one runs for their lives haha. The brave girl will come strolling over and eat out of my hand, it's soooo cuuuute! My husband and I are working very hard to acclimate them to us by walking by their box and talking to them, putting our hands in there, holding them, feeding them by hand, yada yada. We haven't even had them 24 hours and I am already in luuuurve
