Sponsored Post New Giveaway: Try out the Southern States Poultry Pal App for a chance to win!

I just downloaded it and it looks great. I've been wanting to try to do something like this on my own but I'm not that great on the computer. Can't wait to go home from work and play with it.

Just downloaded it! I love the concept however its still pretty slow and glitchy. My phone is nothing to brag about so I'm not sure how much that has to do with the problems im having with it.I cant open a number of tabs and it takes a long time to open.

I'm looking forward to updating this app ASAP. Overall, I like this app and I plan on keeping it. Trial & Error as it goes with new apps. Can't wait for Poultry Pal 2.0! Lol

I still like it so far but you can't use it for ipad....hope they come out with that if the phone app works out. I wanted to take some nice pics of my girls and upload them but we are having torrential rain and they look like drowned rats.

Downloaded the app and the first time I ran it, it froze. It crashes quite a bit and on my older Samsung it is very slow.
The manage my flock section looks to be aimed at the hobbyist with maybe 6 chickens at most. I don't name my chickens (as I have too many to name) and don't see much use in entering name and hatch date for each one. More useful is the egg tracker but this would even be handier if their was a place to track the feed you buy so you could do some math on what your eggs are costing you to produce. Also for those of us who raise meat birds it would be nice to have a feed to meat gain calculator. I would also love to have a hatching calendar where i could enter a date eggs were set and it would remind me of candling and stop turning dates. This would also need to be setup to handle multiple concurrent hatches. The color scheme is nice and The ui isn't terrible but it seems to me to be aimed at the pet chicken crowd not the serious breeder or flock raiser.

This gave me a great incentive to try the app. I've been a little iffy about it since I first saw an add for it. First of all I'd like to say that I enjoyed being able to keep track of my birds and their egg laying. At first I was wondering how to delete birds if one was lost or sold, but I figured that out a few seconds later. I loved the ability to add pictures to each bird's profile to better keep up with who is who, as well as the notes section to add anything about the birds that needs to be remembered. I'm glad that it isn't necessary to put in a value for egg weight and size since I don't keep track of those. I also really like the articles and community gallery.

I did find a few things I didn't like or rather things that could be improved on or could have been my phone's fault. First, the list of breeds in flock management is relatively small compared to the breed list under the chicken guide. I'd really like to see it expanded, even though I don't own any of the breeds listed. I came across a problem with the articles where the page wouldn't scroll sideways, so the words were cut off. This may be due to having a smaller smart phone. I also had it freeze several times and crash completely other times. Again, this may be my phone's fault rather than the app's.

I would really like to see other poultry like turkey, duck, and quail added to it in the future. It would be fantastic to keep all your poultry on one app, though I'm not aware if there are other apps like it. Over all, I really like this app and I would like to see it expanded on in the future. It's a great app to have if you raise chickens.

Downloaded on a Google Nexus 4 running android 2.2. A bit buggy. I uploaded 7 photos, but three of them are gone. I agree the breed list is way too short (this seems like an easy thing to fix). I would like to see more tracking functions (feed, grit, oyster shell) to keep track of how fast my flock is going through rations and help me remember when to buy them. Also in the manage my flock section, you should be able to differentiate hens and roos.

I spent my lunch break "exploring" the app, I still love it however I only have 2 chickens at present; until our coop/yard remodeling is complete. Even then I'm only aiming for 6 (or 7) total. So, that being said I think it will be pretty handy. Here's my Constructive criticism (excited about updates and new versions)

1.the template seems too wide for my screen, it's weird. I can't see the last 2 or 3 words at the end of each line. But my phone isn't anything special.
2."Manage my flock" - Love it, great for small my small (future) flock
3."Chicken Guide" - I was excited about this until I opened it. For the Breeds, I only got pics for RIR & Speckled Sussex, no information at all. Can't view "Product Catalog". The Articles are great!
4."Gallery" - Love the idea, seems slow, updated only once successfully. No luck uploading my pics, not that I've seen anyway.
5."Poultry Blog" - Not Loading At All!

And in the "More" page, I can open everything except the Shopping List and Find Nearest Southern States. I'm still waiting on eggs, my girl isn't quite old enough yet. So I cant really say anything about the "Egg Tracker" now. Also, this is the first time I've tried my hand at raising chickens so...

Did I mention I love the articles? :D And again, I'm looking forward to new versions!

I ended up deleting it before the trial period was up. It kept freezing/force closing. I did enjoy what little I could use it, although only one of my breeds was on it.

I downloaded the app and it won't load. I have closed it out and reopened the app and it still won't load. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it still won't load. it goes to the poultry pal cover page but that's it.
I was really looking forward to this app too.... it is a good idea. if it ever gets fixed to where it works right i will check it out.
