Hi,

I have been lurking for awhile and reading posts. I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon and have kept laying hens for several years now. My husband and kids brought home three sebright bantams for the feed store this spring, and they are doing just fine in our mixed flock of 40. Our hens (and now 2 roosters) are kept free-range on an acre+ of pasture, and roost at night in a secure coop. I am unsure if the bantams will need winter heat, or any special accommodations over the winter? We have winter temps usually 30-40 degrees, with a few days of snow usually once or twice per winter. My other hens (barred rocks, wyandottes, RIR, jersey giants, australorps, etc) are given no extra heat or light and appear to do just fine over winter.
