New guy from Fl.

Welcome from Sugarloaf Mountain,Clermont, Florida. I see you allready found the Florida thread. Where are you? What breeds are you thinking about? BTW, I started with 6 and 9 months later I have over 30+ 7 chicks and another one gone broody. :D

YES, it is an addiction!!!! But I will take my chooks addiction over drugs or alcohol any day.....

In casselberry, I don't have room for that many... the feed store has black sex links, RIR, Barred Rock and Amuricanas... I was thinking 2 black sex links, 1 RIR and an Amuricana..., or maybe one of each... First time for us, I plan on keeping them for eggs, but there's always a Dutch Oven for the ones who don't carry their weight around here...LOL

Yup, that is what I said; but then the little stinkers wormed their way into my heart and I "lost" the axe

Ooops!

Not sure off the top of my head which are the best layers, so do look up the breeds before you buy so you get the best egg ratio for your investment

(especially as there are limitations on how many you could hold on your property) and the time and trouble you have put in to making them a top grade home!

Oh and invest some time in looking up egg recipes! If you keep 4 you potentially have 4x6days of eggs = 2 dozen per week at their height of laying. (Do learn now how to freeze/store eggs - you'll thank me in the winter/they go broody/get spooked/ when they are off lay but you still want eggs

You are going to have such fun with this venture

If you haven't found out yet. Chicks start out needing a 100* spot to warm up in. reducing 5* each week. Till they are fully feathered at about six weeks. Its always a good thing to talk to ones neighbors, even if your allowed to have chickens. I think chicken addiction is more of a disease than addiction. I grew up with them, so for me it I think have an immunity built up.
