New guy with a whole lot of questions!

New2chooks, which feed store is that?

Also, when they said that they would take back any roos, does that only mean that they will provide the roos a home (so you don't have to) or will they also trade a roo for another pullet or even a refund

, for example?

Thanks!

Billybob,

You can wait until Spring before getting your chicks and your coop would be done, but then you would have a *long* time to wait before, first, using the coop itself (say, early Summer), and second, before you get *any* eggs - some time around now *next year*.

I also am just starting out and decided to track down the breeds I wanted now. This way, I'm spending the Fall/Winter building my coop, raising the chicks in my brooder, and then hopefully by Springtime I will have my first eggs!

If you search around hard enough, I am sure you can find someone who has the breeds your wife wants. I'd probably start locally through craigslist rather than the big hatcheries. They've shut down for the most part or are close to it and no longer offering many breeds - pretty much only the "leftovers".

Good luck and

We have a local feed store that sells hay, horse supplies, dog supplies, and they also have chicks/ducks and their supplies.

Yes, they would have taken a rooster back and found a home for it. I believe they would give another chick. I just ordered a couple more than I wanted that way if it happened to me, I'd still have the number of chickens I wanted.
