Hey Sahy, there is a small house at the beginning of my road, it abuts RR tracks and on the other side is a highway (route 101-A). the nearest neighbor is more than 100 yards away. It has a sign up for rent. There is a small metal barn/shed and another shed thing near that one. I dont think the rent could be too much, i can take a picture and send it to ya in the morning on my way out to work. I will get you the phone number too.

A friend and I have D'Uccles through winter and they do fine. Japanese I had a lot of requests for and sold all the chicks I had (about a dozen- buff and black tailed white). I found them wonderful pet type birds.

Janet, I had my previous d'uccle pair in an outdoor doghouse/coop with no heat and several other breed chickens and they free ranged the yard in the snow and ice, etc...On the Japanese...I saw and actually purchased at the first swap of the season a japanese white blk tail chick. It didnt make it, but the gy came in a car and had all the chicks in boxes and they were just day olds. i think he came from mass. All the others i got from him made it. Maybe the japanese are hard to breed/delicate...sorta like the serma thing with a low hatch rate??? Not sure.

I was on a thread and people south of us were worried if the delicate d'uccle breed would make it when it hits freezing. made me wonder. glad to hear they will be ok. on the japanese, I read that a quarter of the chicks die in the eggs days before hatch.

Japanese have a lethal "creeper" gene that has something to do with the breeding for the short legs. Not sure how it affects hatch rate though...

thanks a bunch for the info. the little japanese I kept is real sweet. hope he stays that way. you were right on the gender of the barred frizzle. he is squeeking now. both frizzles have some gold on them. trying to figure out genetics. do you have any idea what breed the gold came from? are they brother and sister? trying to thin the flock.

Shay, I am staying home from work today so I will be able to take a few pictures and email them to you. PM me your regular email address so I dont have to post them here as it is kinda off topic, but not really cause we are looking for chicken housing! hahaha

Yes, they are brother and sister

They came from a mixed flock. I'm pretty sure the mom is a black cochin frizzle or a buff brahma (both bantams) and the dad is problably either the white frizzle roo or the barred rock frizzle (also both bantam). That's my best guess.
The two black Japanese (x?) are doing great. Still not sure on gender but I really like them and am partial to Japanese anyway. I love the personalities of the breed. The two blacks settle down and enjoy the petting and go to sleep in my lap

You wouldn't be interested in a deep red bantam cochin with tons of feather (boy) would you? Super color-deep red w/mahogony like highlites
