New Hampshire Red thread!!!!!!!!!

I had NHRs last year. They were very friendly and beautiful but I was disappointed in their laying rate, only about 50%. Same with the Golden Lace Wyondottes.

Interesting - I guess we've been lucky. Our flock's "queen bee" is a NHR and her laying rate is still near 100% at two years of age! And her eggs are always extra-large. Our other NHRs are not all like Amber though, for sure.

Just wanted to share a pic of our three-year-old NHR hen really enjoying her crumbles!

This is Roger. he is the master of the yard. He's a good friend to all his girls. Super dooper predator eyes that knows an eagle or a hawk coming 30-60 seconds before they're over head. He amazes us everyday. We couldn't free Range with out him. He'll be one year April 13th.
That roger is gorgeous .

We drove a few hours to pick up some Red Orpington pullets and the gentleman gave us this guy and a Cream Legbar roo as well. He bought a pair of the New Hamphsires and ended up with 2 roo's instead.... He let us choose between the 2 male New Hampshires, I think we did well, haha.

We've been looking for a New Hampshire roo so we could breed him with our Delaware hens for red sex links.

I do think I will look for a few nice New Hampshire hens too tho, he is a nice roo.
