OK, I'm posting this in a couple of threads so that I don't have to reexplain this a thousand times for everyone who asks. My right ankle is really messed up, it's further injury from the accident last June. Something that the doctor at UMass missed. My doc here at Cheshire Medical Center took x-rays 2 weeks ago. She spotted what looked like a free floating bone chip and ordered a CT scan to see how big it was. When the results came back she could see the fracture across the whole talus bone. The fracture goes right across where all 3 arteries attach to the bone and it *looks* like there is no healing going on. There should be some considering it has been broken for 9 months. So next week I have a bone scan to see if the bone is alive at all. If it is alive I will have to be 100% off of it for several months while it heals with the help of a special device that sends some kind of ultrasound waves into the ankle to encourage healing. If one artery was lost there is a 30% chance that it will not heal. If two are lost there is a 60% chance that it will not heal. If all three were lost it is already dead and will have to come out. If the bone does heal I will have to go in for surgery after it heals to have the spur that is sticking up shaved off (the spur is what they thought was a chip in the x-ray). If the bone dies they will have to remove it and fuse my ankle which will mean a lot of physical therapy and special footwear to learn to walk again, especially since the nerve damage in my left foot has left me with a drop foot so it doesn't function correctly either. As of today I am 99% non-weight bearing on the right until the bone either heals or the surgery to remove it and recovery has happened. I will be in a walker inside my house and a wheelchair whenever I go out. So I'm going to be rethinking my chickens for the time being. Dan is currently taking care of them but we are talking about selling off most of the flock so he has less work to do since I'm going to be pretty useless for who knows how long. I am hoping to keep my BLRWs and depending upon how Dan feels will decide the fate of the rest of the flock.
