New Hampshire!

this is what we went with last year
http://www.horse.com/item/k-and-h-ultimate-pail-heater/E000343/
it goes inside out 5 gallon waterer which has nipples on the bottom
it worked so well that we are going to get a second one for our other coop this year

good luck
piglett
Can you buy a waterer with nipples or do you have to make one? I want to do this, because I cannot carry water without drenching myself - but I'm very chicken with DIY projects.

i got a 5 gallon bucket from work that had been used for pickles
i took a 11/32" drill bit & put 4 holes in the bottom
i hung it up & filled it with water
the birds go the hang of it within 20 min.

what town are you in?
maybe someone is near by & can help you out

i built my waterer in about 15 min.

My chickens aren't too messy so I don't mind doing the water dishes. I have 4 separate chicken coops and 2 turkey areas also ducks and goats. So for me it is too much water to be bringing in everynight But it does work so with 2 waterers for you it will be pretty easy for you. I wish I had heated waterers, that would be a nice luxury. I may try to buy one here and there if I ever have extra cash maybe when next month when I sell a few of my Thanksgiving turkeys I will use that and splurge on some heated dishes.
Hi there! Can you PM me about the Thanksgiving turkeys (price, etc). I might be interested in buying one for our holiday dinner!

I bought the stuff, I think I can do it. I was looking at more complex designs, the bucket thing seems pretty straightforward. How high does it need to be off the ground for the chickens to reach? My roo is pretty big.

i use a 1" wide ratchet strap to hang both my feeders & waterers
the waterer has to be low enough so your smallest hen can reach it
oh also chickens can stretch their necks a couple inches when they wish to
when we have smaller birds in the coop we just add a couple of bricks set on the floor so the shorter birds can reach also.

here are a couple pics of what i have

for winter we added a bucket heater

& the hinged lid on top does a nice job of keeping poop out of the clean water inside
