New hatch, what is this????

This is my first and probably last hatch! My nerves are shot! First chick came out with red bump thing on butt. What is it?

Its naval, it may absorb more it may not. Apply neosporin to it and try to keep it as clean as possible. It may make it. I had one last year that did just fine, but it wasn't as big as yours.

I'm afraid to open the incubator since some are not hatched. Can I do it later today or possibly even tomorrow?

Yep waiting will be just fine. The humidity in the incubator will help keep it moist.

Sometimes these things just happen. Did he come out of his shell on his own?

Yes. I didn't even open the incubator until all eggs hatched. He couldn't walk, he kept trying then falling over. I stayed up all night last night hand feeding him electrolytes. He died anyway. I'm heartbroken over it.

There wasn't anything you could have done differently. You did what you could for him, he just wasn't meant to survive. Don't beat yourself up.

Aw how sad. I don't like to hatch either. I try to let the broody hens do their job. My nerves can't take it when something goes wrong. I'd rather work third shift in the foaling barn than hatch eggs. Sorry she didn't make it.
