Sorry to keep asking so much! I culled what I had left of my flock over a year ago. But against my advice my mum bought some chickens last summer, we had to cull them too. The last grown chicken to be on our property was about last October. I’ve disposed of as much manure, bedding and feathers as I can, but I know for sure there’s still bits floating round. I’ve Virkon S’ed the coop, run and anything chickeny that I can. We also jet washed and Virkon S’ed again. There’s still stains in places but I wouldn’t think much of that. I’m buying 6 POL pullets tomorrow from a well known chicken supplier. They are vaccinated to Lion Quality which I’m told includes resp diseases and mareks etc. So I’m just wanting clarification that they’ll be okay? I suppose? Or will I have snotty, sneezy chickens in a few weeks?

What were you dealing with before that you had to cull your flock?

No one can say whether or not your chickens will become ill. There's no guarantees even with vaccines. Sounds like you have cleaned up well, used a good product to sanitize everything and have followed a waiting period to repopulate.

All you can do is hope for the best and see how it goes.

No one can say whether or not your chickens will become ill. There's no guarantees even with vaccines. Sounds like you have cleaned up well, used a good product to sanitize everything and have followed a waiting period to repopulate.

We didn’t get any tests done but our poult vet thinks it was a respiratory disease like Infectious Bronchitis, as that is very common in England, he said there’s an estimated 1 in 5 flocks infected with it across the UK. Scary numbers.

Love Virkon. We literally lathered everything with it but of course, I can’t imagine even finding every past piece of dander. I will just hope for the best but I don’t breed or anything so will try not to worry too much if they show signs. They won’t be leaving the premises.

I see. Infectious Bronchitis can make birds carriers of the disease for up to 12months, but it can have a long term impact on production and is linked to reproductive problems like Salpingitis.

Hopefully all will go well for you. Sounds like you took every precaution.

Did vet at least do a necropsy?
Does vet specialize in birds?

They are vaccinated to Lion Quality which I’m told includes resp diseases and mareks etc.

Very curious just exactly what this is.

So you got POL pullets?
You mention that they were vaccinated "similarly".
Just curious. Where you purchased them from did they not give you a sheet that showed the vaccine(s) and/or treatment(s) given?
I've had both vaccinated and none-vaccinated chicks - anytime they were vaccinated, I also received a certificate/information of what they were given.

Yes point of lay. Certificate, no. They are from Hinchcliffe’s, they’re well known poultry suppliers in England but posted the thread as I wanted to make sure they’ll be okay. They’re RSPCA assured too so I’m not sure if that validates their vaxx scheme? I would email them to request a certificate but I tried emailing three times last week about my pullets and got no response.

I will admit it did seem a bit unprofessional when I went today but my pullets look okay so far and seem healthy. They are barn reared so are a bit flighty and jumpy. My blue hybrid has a bit of a cross beak but I know that’s not a disease. About today, the guy forgot to give me my £10 until I asked and the pullets for people to look at didn’t seem very happy, there were about 20 crammed in a 6x4 shed.

It will take them a little time to come around.
I would just go sit near them and talk to them for a few days. Let them get used to your presence. Then start to scatter just a little scratch or treat near where you are sitting. Each day scatter it a little closer to where you are sitting. In no time they will be under foot
