New Hens...how long to lock in coop?

I got 16 11 month old hens and a rooster today. After an hour in the car, they are all in their new coop. How long should I keep them in there without letting them out into the run? The run is a 1/2 acre fenced area. I hate to keep them cooped up (lol!!!!) but I know they need to learn that this coop is their new home.

I've heard anywhere from 3 days to 1 week. Please let me know your thoughts.

Since the run is fenced in... maybe a day and see how the do.

I know they are antsy being stuck in the coop. Should I start out with some time in the yard near dusk? Could I try tonight?

Chickens just went into their new coop yesterday.

I'd say a day or two, and let them out early in the morning... It's easier when you have other chickens in the coop already who know their yard... the new ones will follow them around.

Hey not to hijack your thread, but I have 4 hens and a rooster that have been living here in their coop for over a week, would it be safe to let them out?? There isnt a fenced area yet, our chickens free range for now. Three of them got out the first day they were here but I caged the two remaining hens and left the coop door open and they came back promptly led by the rooster. I'm just worried they will take the heck off and never come back. How long does it take for them to call their new coops home?
