Hello,
I have 4 RiR, one of which being a rooster and they're all a little over 4 months old. 3 days ago I was given 4, 1 year old hens. My coop and run are both plenty big enough for probably 20 chickens. Problem is the new hens wont go into the coop except 1 girl goes in just to lay and right back out. At night my rir rooster and his 3 girls go to the coop but the 4 others still sleep on the perch in the run. Is this due to my rooster not allowing the older hens in at night or they just like the run more? Any tips or advice would be awesome! Thanks!

Hmm, what breed are they? "Wilder" breeds often prefer the great outdoors. Another option is the coop might be unclean or smell, or it might be too hot in there.

You've only had the new hens 3 days? The old ones are probably keeping them out because the new birds are intruders.

How much roost space (linear ft) is in the coop? How many roost bars total?

Any other integration issues or are they mostly ok with each other during the day?
