New here and ready to "inkybate" as my 7 yr old says

G’Day from down under Familyfarm47 :frow Welcome and Congratulations on your new home!

"Inkybate" love it! :lau

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us.

The temperament of cockbirds is not breed dependent and your concern about children being around them is both responsible and understandable. From my experience, most that I've had have not been human aggressive - the ones that have ended up in the crock pot. If its a concern, then maybe getting fertile eggs from someone local may be an option worth considering ?

Hello and welcome to BYC!! It’s so nice to have you join us! welcome.gif
"Inkybation"...how sweet!

Regarding roosters, my experience has been very similar to Pork Pie Ken. I have been very fortunate to have only a couple human aggressive roosters in all the roosters I have. But your concern is very valid. Buying fertilized eggs are a fantastic way to bring unrelated bloodlines into your flock if you are unsure about having a rooster. You will most likely end up with some cockerels from hatched eggs as well.

This video may help with learning how to navigate the new site.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of us. :)

Welcome to BYC. I got a good chuckle over the "inkybate". You came to the right place to learn about rooster raising. I recently adopted a rooster that needed a flock of his own. Even though I've had roosters in the past, this is the first time that I feel confident about how to properly raise a well behaved boy. This confidence comes from all the lessons I've learned from BYC members here.
