Few days ago my brother and I found an orphaned goose. The flock was no where to be found. So we took him in. My husband and I have been caring for him and calling him/her Ryan I think he is about 2 weeks old. He loves my husband and my husband loves him. He is currently curled up in a towel asleep on my lap. I am wondering as he gets older will he hush. He cheers allot when not held. Unless in a dark room. Also any good tips. I have done a lot of reading online about Canadian geese.

Make sure the gosling gets plenty of green grass and dandelion leaves. When you let the gosling outside stay with it so nothing gets it. Or have an enclose you can put the gosling in to graze on the grass. Portable ones work great with a top on so nothing can swoop down and grab the gosling.
Also needs waterfowl crumbles or gamebird crumbles. In the morning and the evening. Or since about two weeks old you can use an adult waterfowl feed so baby does not get angel wing from too much protein...
Make sure it has plenty of water to drink and play in. Make sure it is always clean water. Keeps them healthy with clean water daily to play in.

No the gosling will not shut up they talk almost all the time. As they get older they talk a bit less. But still talk a lot. That is geese.

That does help a bit. Currently having my shirt attacked lol..... He gets to swim several times a day in my tub. I am moving in a couple weeks from an apt to a house where I am installing a water Decor just for ryan. I will be able to take him out and not worry about him trying to run off? And when he gets to flight age since we plan to allow him roam of house and yard (diapered in house) will he fly off and not come back or will he adventure and return seeing us as his flock?

Hi caredd86. Firstly, I´d get a couple of little gosling friends for it asap. Goslings and geese need others of their kind, really, to be happy. Plenty of grass is essential, and the other things that Ruru said. If he´s a canada goose, then most likely he´ll fly off when he sees the others, but who knows....also, be careful about keeping him enclosed once he can fly, you may be breaking the law. Careful with that one. Canada geese are wild, not really domesticated like the other breeds. Some folks find they hang around, others not. He may well hang around, but no guarantees. One thing you could do is get a couple of goslings as company for him, then he may choose to stay, and even if he goes, then you still have the others, which you will undoubtedly fall in, love with, too.

I thought about getting a friend. I have been researching and reading into the law. The only laws I can find are on goose season and poaching. Once he can fly and has most of his adult feathers he is going out side more than inside so he doesn't get agitated and break something with powerful wings lol. He is a really sweet bird. And my husband has fallen for the little guy. I think he is cute. And I am working on the loving him part. Lol I have a love for all animals but to a degree birds have always scared me a little. Lol

Well getting a friend would be a great thing to do. they´re like horses and sheep, they need a herd/flock to be happiest. Why not get yourself a couple of gozzies, then? You´ll love them, maybe get a couple of females, then they´ll stay nice and calm for you.

Chiming in on getting him buddies: do it! He's not cheering when not held; he's crying with panic of being abandoned.

Don't worry about him running off when you take him outside. As long as you're there, your worry will be not stepping on him or accidentally kicking him. He'll be right at your feet. But don't leave him alone; he'll immediately go searching for you and get lost.

Goslings talk incessantly. They constantly have to reassure themselves that they're not lost. Adult geese talk less, but are louder when they do. They chatter quite quietly most of the time, but they can be very loud when alerting, greeting, or just overwhelmed with happiness. When their voices change, they start talking less. As far as I remember it's when they're about three months old.
