Hi Eveyone... so happy to be a new member here at BYC. This is my first year raising Chickens. I have 15 lovley girls.... 6 of which are Pennington Buff, 5 are Jersy Gaint whites and 4 Barred Rocks.. very different personalitys. They just started laying eggs a couple of weeks ago and I am so amazed by the different sizes and shapes of eggs. is it normal for the eggs to be very large this early in the game?
I am open to any and all advise... with winter coming i really would like to know how to keep them warm and keep them laying.
thanks

Hello and :welcome! You'll find lots of information here! Soon you may even find that you spend a great portion of your days hanging around here talking about chickens  Normally eggs get bigger as new girls lay. The first eggs are usually smaller as they get into the swing of things, so you can actually probably expect your eggs to get bigger! To keep them laying through the winter, you should provide extra light. There are plenty of threads on here about how to do it if you do a search ;)

Hi and :welcome

Glad to have you here!
It's normal for hens' eggs to be different sizes when they're still getting the hang of laying.
You might have some double yolkers there, if they're unusually large.

Usually chickens just slow down with the laying during the winter, although some people give them some artificial light to keep things going. I'm not too sure how this works. You should do a search.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D
