Heya folks!
First of all-THANK YOU for all the wonderful information on this site!
I started keeping chickens when the lovely young lady in my avatar made her way to the shelter I worked at. We bonded and I brought her home. We bought her a coop and a yard run, did some research and got her 2 friends.
Local coyotes didn't like it and took out her and one of her friends, leaving me with Tender, aka Chunky chicken, a black australorp.
A few months later, SOMETHING about destroyed the coop trying to get to Tender, I moved the coop and run into the backyard behind a 6' fence and am finishing out (3) three-week old chicks, named Ferrari, Lotus, and Mercedes. They are off the heat lamp and are inside most of the time until they get their feathers in. Ferrari is a Delaware and Lotus and Mercedes are red stars.
They spend a few hours outside in the run every day when I'm home while Tender gets run of the entire backyard so they can socialize and learn from her without being in danger of her hurting them.
I'm looking forward to meeting members and making some new "chick-minded friends" in addition to learning more about this wonderful hobby.
