I just bought a house and the previous owner left his 3 pet ducks here. We’ve never owned ducks but I’m determined to learn all I can to properly care for them. It doesn’t seem he knew much about ducks either, they were for his kid but never handled just sorta there. The oldest duck, a Pekin, has a limp. He said the duck injured his leg at some point but General Quack, as my kids named him, has gotten much slower the last few days and stopped going in their tub. I was finally able to pick him up and noticed what appears to be callouses on both his feet. They aren’t hot, no pus or blood. Would that be why he’s limping and no longer getting into their tub? He’s getting pretty dirty from avoiding the water now too. What would be the best ways to help him? I honestly have no idea how old he is or how long he was limping. I know he used to have a mate who died so they then got 2 other ducks, male khaki campbells who appear to be in great health. They eat duck pellets and cracked corn mixed regularly (what he left for us) and I give them salad greens almost daily. Any advice would be so appreciated!
