Hi, I'm new here. I recently purchased chicks from tractor supply, their story is when the batch of chicks were picked up from the post off somehow all of the information was lost. The entire shipment was unidentified. I am assuming they are barred rocks. Any information on breed or gender is appreciated. This is my first flock, sorry for the newby questions.

Welcome to BYC! I hope you enjoy it here, there are plenty of knowledgeable people.

You indeed have Barred Rocks, sometimes they are called Plymouth Rocks. About how old are they? That will help us decide if they are male or female.

As for the breed, our Barred Rocks are quite nice, if not a bit bossy sometimes. Though, they are larger than everyone else. Ours are friendly and enjoy eating treats from our hands. They are sociable and enjoy clucking quite a bit! Overall, I think you're going to enjoy watching them and interacting with them. Quite the well-tempered chicken :)

Thank you for your response, they are roughly 3 months old. We already enjoy watching them, I have a 3 year old that loves them and they love him because he normally brings treats.

I'm glad you're enjoying them! I'm not the best at sexing Plymouth Rocks. I would say all pullets, but one of them has a bit of a red comb and wattles compared to the others. So, I would just watch and see what happens. Maybe someone better at sexing them will show up. Though, I would guess that they are most likely all pullets.
