(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first chickens when my oldest was 7 so 12 years ago. But later moved to the city and couldn't bring them to an apartment, obviously.
The past 2 years I have been part of a chicken coop co-op in my neighborhood, since my husband kept saying no (the past 9 years) to getting our own chickens. My 3yr old son is in love with them. So finally convinced him!!!! Yay!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
4 chicks, pretty sure one is not a girl
, right now they are selling really fast and I asked a friend who lives right by two Wilco and Tractor supply stores to try to grab me some. They were selling out in 45 minutes and I live over 45 minutes away. He wasn't aware that the sexlinks, that the lighter ones are boys and while they were said to all be girls, one is a LOT lighter than "her" sisters. I had suspicions the first time I saw "her" and "she" keeps getting lighter every day... Hopefully " she" is a quiet girl?

. Otherwise I have a rooster plan, but while not legal in my area, my neighbors are: a teacher who is up early anyways, a family that's really easy going and wouldn't mind and across the street is a deaf neighbor. So might be able to keep a boy if he isn't completely obnoxious...
(3) What breeds do you have?
1 Isa Brown and 3 Bovan Goldlines
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Easy! My kids adore them and I do love fresh eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love projects and building and construction. Also garden and home remodeling. We bought a 115 year old house ten years ago and it's always got something that needs fixing or adding or improvement.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Stay at home mom, and part time editor for my husband who is an author. His series is The Never Hero. I have 2 toddlers, almost 2 year old girl and just turned 3 boy. Plus a teenager, 19, he is amazing and very helpful. 1 dog, 3 cats, 5 koi in a pond, a turtle, and a rodent.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been lurking for a few weeks. I found it by accident looking for coop questions and spacing info.
