New to raising and new to Backyard Chickens. Live in Alabama on 18 acres with a couple of horses, dogs, and a barn cat. We bought our first chicks today. Six bantams from tractor supply. Lost one but it looked bad when we got home with it. We wanted golden comets but they were out. Going back this week to get more. We have them in a wire dog crate with shavings and newspaper, chick waterer, chick feeder with grower, heat lamp. We have cardboard around the sides about six inches up so they don't escape. Looking forward to learning more.
