Hi everyone! I am a kindergarten teacher and my class hatches eggs every year. We switch between chicks and ducklings. After two years of this I am ready to tackle a backyard coop. I just can't stand giving those little cuties away every year and I am hoping to get some fresh eggs too!
I won't be getting my chicks until next May as the egg hatching is an end of the year project but I am busy preparing the coop and run now since I have more time in the summer. It is going to be a long wait until May. I am going to convert an old shed into the coop and got a dog run as the beginning of my run. I already have lots of questions and will welcome any advice.
Can't wait until May!

That is a long wait! Keep us posted.

Hi and :welcome

Wow, that is a really long wait! But lots of time so you can get everything perfect. :P
Good luck with building a coop!

I hope you find everything you need here. :D

YAY YAY YAY!!!!! They are finally here!!!!! A day early too. Our eggs arrived this afternoon. The class is so excited. They will not be here tomorrow so we are waiting until Monday to start incubating them. I was a little nervous because they usually come on a Friday and since I don't want them hatching over the weekend when the kids are not here we start them on a Tuesday morning but hopefully starting late on Monday afternoon will keep them on target for a Monday or Tuesday hatch. Wish us luck!

Boy, we never had exciting stuff like that when we were in kindergarten. The best we got was the teacher passing a jar around the classroom and we each had to shake it hard 20 times, end result was butter and we got to put it on crackers. It was delicious.
