Hi all! I've been lurking on this sight for the past couple of months, since we brought our 6 little chicks home to brood!
...no surprise since I've 'officially' joing up -- I've found myself waaaay more into these little gals than I thought I'd be. (This was originally my husband's idea!!
)
We are brand new to chickens, but everyone in the family -- which includes our 2 y.o and 5 y.o, plus our German Shepherd -- have become quite taken with them! (The 2 kids plus the dog like to help make sure they've all made it safely back into their run at the end of 'chicken play time'!)
We have 6, 11 week old allegedly- female (alegedly-)Ameraucanas. (I've done my research and realized they are probably the Easter Eggers, though we bought them from a feed store as the A's.
I've visited this group/site repeatedly over the past couple months, trying to figure out if we really have females, and to learn about the difference between the real A and the EE's.
Our little backyard flock is inside city/town zoning for 5 hens only, so eventually we will have to say goodbye to one of our new little friends! (And I've already lined up a good home, and a backup, for her/him.)
It would be lots easier to decide if that 'choice' was made for us, so I am actually hoping we do have one rooster.
I'm hoping to post on one of those 'what gender' threads -- cause the suspense is killing me and can't make up my mind which, if any, I think is a rooster. (I've been back and forth about 4 of them for weeks!!!)
So there you have it! Thanks for welcoming us
