Hello fellow chicken lovers!
I'm Jen and was born and raised here in NC. Growing up as a kid, my dad had many animal obsessions. We always (and my mom still does) have horses. We had at one point or other: cows, pheasants, chickens, turkeys, quail, rabbits, guinies, cockatoos, other various indoor birds, and of course dogs and the stray cats.
Needless to say, caring for animals has always been a big part of life. Then my husband and I got married and now have our two wonderful children (5 and 1). I wanted them to have the same experiences I did (but on a much smaller scale!)
We currently have 4 girls (still hoping they are all girls). 2 red sex links, 1 lavender Orpington, and one copper maran.
I bought this little pre-fab coop online that was great when they were smaller. But now that they're 12 to 14 weeks old, they've out grown it.
My husband and I are now in the process of building a new, fancy coop and run. We're sick of them using our downstairs patio as their own toilet. They get locked up at night, but roam free during the day.
I'm so excited about this new coop. It's so large, we will definitely have more room to expand our little flock.
Anyhow, this got long. I'm excited to finally be on here because I've lurked for quite some time. Thanks for having such a large and knowledgable place for people to come and learn!
