What did it cost to build?

Ive got around 150 in it but some stuff I had already. It could be built with better plywood and all for 200 or less I would think.

The motor is a 24vdc motor by Molon part # CHM-2401-1M. It turns at 1.4 rpm so anything much over that would be too fast I would think. I tried one that turned at 40rpm and was too fast. It could be done but would require a lot more electronic parts to do so. The slow motor makes it simple!

Could you use an AC motor and wire it the same or would it have to be different?

An ac motor is expensive to reverse. There may be a way to do it but it would be beyond me. Tbere is another way it could be done with a different volt motor by using relays and plug in transformers but would just add more parts and cost.

Ok thanks, ill just keep looing for a DC motor I cant find one like you have, I did find one close to it for around $50 I would really like to find one cheaper than that.

Ok, ill keep that one in mind if I dont find anything else. Is there anyway to use a 12vdc motor?
