I made an incubator from a styrofoam cooler that works ok but the temps are hard to keep steady, I'm using water bottles for a heat sync, a 40W bulb, and a hot water heater thermostat to control the light. Taking an average of the temps it's staying around 98-100 degrees. Yesterday I went to my neighbors rummage sale and found a waterbed heater, and got to thinking about using this for a heater in the other incubator, so I bought it and took it home and plugged it in, and it didn't work. So I cut the cord off the thermostat, and spliced a light socket into it, and put this into the incubator, I can't believe how steady the temps are using this thermostat. I put a 40W bulb in first and could only get 92 degrees, put in a 60W and got 95, then put in a 100W, and it stayed steady at 99. I've collected about a dozen pheasant eggs from my birds, and I'm going to use this incubator for them starting the end of this week.
