We do have a system, however, we investigate and do not issue warnings etc without getting all sides of an issue. If you don't report the problem, then we can't do anything.

BYC has a mostly hands off policy in the BSA. We have a feedback system and we do look at complaints, but it is a very rare thing to remove or alter feedback.

We expect all parties to work toward a resolution and only after all parties have exhausted all ways and means will we consider stepping in.

We do not moderate on a "he said she said" method.

yes, and the ones that just completely disappear. or the ones that say after they win "cancel my bid", or "now is not a good time".
we cant leave negative feedback on them, because they will retaliate... they dont really care about their own feedback, but are quite happy to ruin ours.

I think if you have a negative point system, you should also have a positive point reward system. If you don't want it to be about negativity you need to give members something to look forward to and of course that can show by the members user name. I don't think anyone would object to that. Might help the younger members the most.

this is a good point. although Im not interested in collecting reward points. But as a long time member who promotes and supports BYC when ever possible, Id just like the extra support when i do have an issue.

I agree with the reward points thing. Isn't it enough to be a part of this great site?

I'm a moderator on another site and we have a similar set up with points for infractions and we have the ability to make it a warning or skip warning and go straight to a ban for the case of spammers and such. It really has helped us keep track and focus on problem members because when you have lots of moderators working a site, they can't know every person who's caused trouble on different boards there. This way you'll be able to tell if a member has been trolling on multiple boards over a few weeks, see their history and deal with them accordingly. I hope it works as well for you as is does for us over there. I've found the admin. and mods. here to be fair and reasonable, so I don't see any issues from that end.

I don't want to be involved in all that. First of all, we don't own a BYC Lie Detector so sometimes it's difficult to be 100% sure who is telling the truth. We don't have access to folks' paypal accounts to check if they paid or were paid, etc. It would be a nightmare that would have me checking myself out of the moderator's chair if I had to try to sort out all those bungled transactions.

Right, this is mostly to protect people, especially younger members. Generally, posting too much public info (name, age, address, phone number, etc.) is a very bad idea on a super public website. Once it is posted, it is almost impossible to remove it from the internet, search engines, etc. In the case of a chickenstock, posting the address to the event is up to the poster, but if it is your home, I'd suggest you send that to the participants via PM.

I totally get what you are saying, but being able to control yourself is what separates us from the other animals.

Replying "in kind" is never appropriate and will always get the poster in trouble.

Important: Keep in mind that while the default point count for trolling, flaming, etc. might be 35 points, if our staff feel somoene is violating the rule in a way that goes above and beyond the standard point count, the staff may give a "custom warning" with way more points (which could be enough for a 2 week + ban).

So, long story short: Keep the fighting, trolling, flaming, etc. off the public forum.

I saw, on some thread and I can't remember where, a beautiful response to some one being jibbed and jabbed. It related to chicken behaviors and if it happened or never happened. After another volley towards the "good responder" from the offender, His/Her response was a simple "I'm happy for you". I thought it was so classy and all but the offender knew the offensive offender had been put in their place since the offender still came back at her. Duh!

I worked with someone once, who, even if she specifically asked for your opinion, if she didn't like your response, her canned answer was "Thank you for sharing." Whenever you heard that, you knew you were being blown off - but very politely!!!

I'm gonna have to keep that one in mind for later!

i know it's sad when it comes to this. i'm a mod on another board, one for my favorite football team. sometimes people just say and do things that are totally off the wall, and sometimes just to try to 'stir the pot' so to speak. i appreciate anyone who has earned the right to be a moderator here. sometimes on that board it seems as if i am an unpaid baby sitter, LOL. the times i have to use my own judgement or interpretation to dole out a warning has to be done completely unbiased and totally based on the rules. i am pretty sure in the year or so i've been comin hangin out here it's been the same and will continue to be done that way.

i love this place, i've learned so many good things about my chickens! thanks for all the constant news and info here for my continued chicken eggggducation

I think that anyone over 7599 posts should be allowed to assign points to other members

How do we assign points to a moderator or Nifty?
