Someone may as well go ahead and give me 30 pts.

I will probably end up violating rule #5 at some point.

I try to limit myself to FB, but sometimes it does overrun onto BYC.
Of course, good thing sarcasm isn't specified.

As usual another brilliant idea here. Thanks so much, I know we don't thank our mods and admins enough for all they do and their guidance. I can see the need for this new rule very clearly. With so many members......nearing 100,000....just blows my mind. This is one of the best sites on line and hope it stays that way and can only be kept this family oriented by rules with so many members.

Good question.. cause i can see some serious "point" value problems coming up...
Like, "why did so and so only get 5 points for that...and i did the SAME thing and got 10 points?"
I think a point value list is a good/fair thing for us all to have/know.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe we all agreed that you, redhen, being the special member you are, will always get the max.

I don't think behaving is part of my genetic make-up! HONEST!! My Ma was complaining to me on the phone the other day that my 80 year old father was playing with all the doctors gigits and gagets before the doc got into the room.

Sometimes a posting is so erroneous or provocative that it must be responded to. I generally will report the poster, but sometimes I feel the need to respond in kind. I, like most people here, know when I am breaking the rules, but sometimes (fortunately rarely) feel it is necessary. If I respond in a way I know will earn me some points and acknowledge in my post the points I know I will earn as a result of my infraction, am I going to earn extra points in the process? Would that fall under Rule #15 to post the points you know you are going to be getting as a result of responding to a bait?

Example:
OP- Provocative post.
Me- Flaming retort.
+35 points (Sorry, mods. I know I am going to get busted, but I'd do it again.)

Just curious. It won't apply often because I don't generally break the rules, but when I do... I know I'm doing it. And will likely take full responsibility for it while doing it.

Thanks for any clarification you may have on this matter.

Responding to posts and then reporting them is just as bad as the OP's posts in those situations.

We can get it taken care of fast and easy if people would just use the report button and walk away.

In that case you are both guilty and will both get infraction points and risk a BYC vacation.

Right, this is mostly to protect people, especially younger members. Generally, posting too much public info (name, age, address, phone number, etc.) is a very bad idea on a super public website. Once it is posted, it is almost impossible to remove it from the internet, search engines, etc. In the case of a chickenstock, posting the address to the event is up to the poster, but if it is your home, I'd suggest you send that to the participants via PM.

I totally get what you are saying, but being able to control yourself is what separates us from the other animals.

Replying "in kind" is never appropriate and will always get the poster in trouble.

Important: Keep in mind that while the default point count for trolling, flaming, etc. might be 35 points, if our staff feel somoene is violating the rule in a way that goes above and beyond the standard point count, the staff may give a "custom warning" with way more points (which could be enough for a 2 week + ban).

So, long story short: Keep the fighting, trolling, flaming, etc. off the public forum.
