New Infraction / Warning System - Points for rule violations

I know I will get in trouble for this but it's also apparent it's political.Some which will remain nameless violate many of the "rule violations" frequently.I find it hard to believe they are never noticed but then someone outside of the political ring gets in trouble for something minor.
Some of us can type a name no matter how nice the post just a name added and we are in trouble...friends in high places.
However,nothing in this World is truly fair and BYC is no exception.

I got warned for Bumping/cross posting. It was a total accident though!

I don't even know what bumping is. I was pretty new when I got warned.

Now the cross posting was my falt. Thank you speckledhen for telling me about it

Someone mentioned politics. There are no politics here and I am 100% serious about that, no pets, no one getting away with stuff because of who they know. We are human, but we do our level best to be completely even handed across the board, which is why we have a team of moderators from different backgrounds and interests. If you see a violation of the rules, report it. This is the fastest moving forum I've ever seen and there is no way we can see all posts in all threads--I think you folks must realize that.

ALL reports are taken seriously and evaluated, regardless of who is reported and who reported them. If you don't report something, you really cannot complain that someone is getting away with something. There are sections of this forum I never visit unless there is a report about a thread in them. And there are many threads in which I have not read the first post. I know it's the same for all the moderators.

So, help us help you and report rule violations, please.

I am religiously following this thread because of the way my brain works. I did "skim" through the rules when I signed up for BYC. But I am afraid I am too old to remember everything (and I usually don't read manuals either

). So this thread definitely teached me what NOT TO DO. I just keep my fingers crossed that none of my previous posts comes back to deliver me points

We work really hard to give members plenty of notice and training before they get to a point that their access to our great community is limited.

Our warning system helps us notify members of specific rule violations without having to resort to a "ban" or any other change in their forum status.

Warnings by themselves do not impact your forum status, so if you get one, just view it as a reminder of the rules and more detail on how we moderate our community.

Again, we wish we didn't have to issue warnings or bans, but a community as HUGE as ours with all the diversity of peeps and points-of-view really require that we have strict rules.

I think it is perfectly understandeable that you have this system in place (sorry for the additional work

). I have to be perfect in my real job and am glad somebody is watching over my spillings here on the forum. That means I get to be a little more relaxed and a little less paranoid about what I'm doing. Kinda like a teenager where mom checks to see if the socks are really all put away in the drawer. A huge thanks to you and all the mods for letting us have a playground

A suggestion to the mods:

Before you send a warning to someone, why not PM them and ask them what they meant? My writings can easily be misunderstood as I tend to type slower than the thoughts flowing....

I must agree with that. PMing, then waiting, sometimes days, for a response, doesn't work well on a fast moving forum such as we have.
