New Jersey - Set the Date!!

Ugh, I was so upset about the Malay! My dad said he found her beat up one day, but not injured. He said he took her out and kept her separated for a week. After the week, he stuck her right back in the coop and she had been a very timid chicken to begin with. The next day he called and said he found her dead! Something attacked her and I have a feeling it may have been my goose. He is not mean, but my dad didn't separate the hen before sticking her back in and they must not have accepted her. I felt so horrible because she was so beautiful and if I had been home this wouldn't have happened! I have lost quite a few birds this winter (mostly to old age) but every time one dies it hits me hard. This one really got me because I had just gotten her and she was so unique.

I'm going to be ordering the hatchery surprise from cackle. I may order a few ducks and geese on the side too, but I haven't decided yet. I getout of school the 2nd of May, so I'm planning to get the order a week or so after I get out of school.

I was going to go to the Sussex show, but I think I may skip out this time. I didn't have anything entered and I don't really have much money to buy since I've been at school and haven't been working. I think I may just wait until this summer when I have some money and do some other shows. (Plus, I would have to return back to school that same night after the show and I was thinking it would be too much with a 45 minute ride back home and then another 2 1/2 hours back to school)

I'm looking forward to the CS though! I told my mom to mark it on the calendar!

YAHOO !! We'll be a coming !! And I'll make some good eats to share with everyone - we're just starting out in this love/hobby so we'll have questions and lots of things to learn from you all...

Michael and Nan

Glad you can come Mike & Nan! You guys missed a good show - my girls did really well. I picked up 6 banty chicks at Agway last Tues (will someone please stop me?!), so I'll have a total of 19. I just hope they aren't all roos - then some will have to go! TTYS!! - mary

Ok guys - only two weeks to go! I'm getting my coop cleaned up, and some signs made to guide you here. I sent out some invites to people whose addresses I had, and some flyers to some feed stores. Will start hearing responses soon. Let's pray the weather is like it was today! I'll be back with updates - Mary

JillyIam I just looked at your pics. and boy what a great set up you have at home! REally nice & I don't mind saying I'm a bit jealous. LOL Are those all RIR's you've got? They're really pretty birds.

Mom2Cool,
I'm so glad you liked the pictures. 3 of the girls are RI Reds and 4 are Easter Eggers. They are a spoiled group. Now they are enjoying lots of strawberries from the garden. Are you from NJ? I hope Mary's party is still on. I'd like to meet some fellow chicken folk.

yes I am in NJ though I am SO far north I might as well be saying I'm in lower NYS. LOL but I'd still considered looking into going. I'm still real new to this and hubby's in the process of still putting our fencing around the coop. I wish I had some money to put in a real nice potting shed/coop like you've got. I thought it would be fun to go and see someone else's set up and yes meet other chicken people. I'm still unsure though & can't remember is the weekend is open. I swear I am going on a fried brain here.

what was the date for it again? And are we still able to get in or is it just like a big open house?

I'm so sorry I didn't get this date on my radar screen sooner! I made a commitment for Saturday that will only get changed if the weather is crummy (outdoor plans). It would be so nice to cross paths with all of you going!!!
JJ

Edited to add: I'm in west central Jersey
