New Jersey

Wow that's perfect then! My hubby was invited to a St Patty's Day golf outing by some of the guys he used to work with, it's good timing with the chicks coming.
I just ordered some leg bands - I realized I don't have enough. I hope they come in time - if not, I have some small colored zip ties.
Be VERY careful with zip ties. They get them caught on something or pick/peck at them they will definitely tighten up too much. You could wind up having to amputate if it got too tight. There isn't really any way to cut it off the leg either if it gets that tight.

I use the color zip ties and just for myself. I've used them to ID my birds from grow outs or ones in selling. Yes you do have to be careful but most of us take care of our birds. As they get older i use Velcro zip ties. Gray for girl black for boy and then I attach a color zip to that if necessary for identification. I also never let a bird leave with a band unless I know the person is experienced with raising. They do grow fast.

Getting an Easter egger (EE) is a gamble on egg color. They are a mix (mutt) chicken with one parent, such an an Ameraucana, for the blue egg gene. The pea comb trait is linked to a colored egg also but still not a guarantee. A true ameraucana will always lay a blue egg and also conform to the APA standards for the breed. They also only come in eight recognized colors. Just because it lays a blue egg doesn't mean it's an ameraucana and that is where the confusion come in when people buy these birds. EE lay beautiful eggs but it is a gamble. Don't worry if your EE doesn't lay colored eggs that's an excuse to find some more

Thanks for the clarification on the two, I also found a good article on the website about a colorful basket and that also touched on EE Vs. Ameraucanas. I will just get the two "Ameraucanas" I planned and wait to see what they do, maybe ill luck out. At the end of the day its not really going tot matter. Plus like you said its just an excuse to get more ;) I guess it just makes me a little frustrated that EE are labeled Ameraucanas when they are not. There isn't anything wrong with EE,but when you are planning your first flock and this is what you want and paying for and it isn't what you get it is upsetting. OH-WELL! After reading your post and the reading I did last night I think that my Grandmother has EE and they were given to her as Ameraucanas. Three girls one greenish egg, one blue egg, and one creamy pinkish brown daily. They are our ( my sons too) FAVORITE girls of the bunch. Super friendly!! Thanks again for all the info and Help. Now if I can just get some chicks....:jumpy
It is frustrating when they are labeled wrong. He really should consider changing the label to Easter Egger. Yes, he is a good place to buy birds, but when people are coming to you expecting pure Ameraucanas, it isn't a good thing to do.

I agree. I would be upset if i bought ameracaunas and found out they were EE's and vice versa. If Bruce's ameracaunas are really EE's, do they still get the ear muffs? That's the cutest part!

I've been dying for an OE lately. I saw the most beautiful egg from one recently and i'm hooked. It was so pretty.

Here's my chicken wish list.......

Speckled Sussex- love the sploches
Silver Wyandotte & Gold Laced Wyandotte- i think they're the prettiest of all i've seen
Olive Egger- prettiest eggs
Blue cochin- love the blue and they look so fluffy and soft

What's on everyone else's?????

This is in addition to the five i already have. Since i'm only allowed to have four, i think i need to move. Is it wrong to move to another town just so i can get more chickens? :D

If you want to stay close, how about Howell or Toms River? Yes, Toms River has no restrictions with chickens. My friend loves there on an acre and has about 100 birds. I have to wait about 25 years before I can go and get whatever animals I want. EEnormally have muffs. Some don't, but both mine do.
