I just received this one too:

Jones Natural Chews recall
Jones Natural Chews, based in Rockford, Ill., has voluntarily recalled 245 of Woofers beef patties due to potential salmonella contamination.

So five chicks are out! they seem to be taking a while to fluff though and two of the five I've had to help a bit due to no progression over a long period of time. It's odd because the only part that seems to be causing them to stick is the area right around the hole. The rest of the membrane looks ok. Of course though to help those chicks I had to open the incubator which is not what I wanted to do! I grabbed the others out of it while I had it open and added a bit more water. Sounds like two more are peeping and one is pipped. Hopefully these two pop on their own!

Go chickies go!

One of my marans has decided to go broody on me. The day before yesterday, I noticed she was in the nesting box when I went to feed everyone - I didn't think too much of it. But when I went down yesterday I noticed she was in there - and it dawned on me that it was too big of a coincidence that she'd be on there twice! So I peeked in at her and yup...broody....
Bad timing - I've been planning to collect eggs and hatch chicks to sell at the show in May...I hope I can talk her out of it! LOL

I've read the "what is broody" thread a lot and even searched it on the intranet. Everything i read about it tends to use the word in the definition which really doesn't help. Is broody when a hen decides she wants to sit on eggs to hatch them? Why is this such a bad thing? Can't you just reach under her and get the egg? I'm blonde, am i asking a really dumb question?
