I wish I could take him - pet rats are awesome. We've had many over the years. But I already have cockatiels and a blind chicken in here with me, plus I need to keep room for the chicks coming this spring. I literally do not have a surface for the cage, or I would seriously consider it.

(Alright, I already seriously considered it, even moving stuff around to find a spot - but no go. Bummer. I have a huge multi-level cage, too. Good luck!)

You sure I'll bring him

This afternoon i was cleaning the coop in the pouring rain and wind. I use a concave garbage can lid to carry the shavings from the garage to the coop. Do you see where this is going? Anyway, i was drenched at this point, literally drenched. i got to the coop and put the lid mounded with shavings down in front of me when a gust of wind came and blew all of the shavings out of the lid. Naturally they all stuck to me since i was all wet. They were all over my face, coat, legs, and completely stuck in my hair. I looked like i had been tar and feathered. It was pretty funny :)

Well today was another windy day....... I didn't get covered in shavings since i wasn't wet like yesterday but i was wearing chapstick

Not as funny as yesterday since the shavings that stuck to my mouth were ones i had just swept out of the coop. Ok, it's kinda funny hee hee.

It's funny how if it's our own pets fur or feathers that gets in our mouths it's no big deal. I pick dog hair out of my food all the time. I've opened a new box of cereal and swear i've found my dogs hair in it. I'd throw up if a persons hair was in my food. That's including my own.

I thought of you njchix as i was putting two eggs in my pocket and quickly put one in the other pocket. I figured after the mouth full of shavings i better not test fate :)

The last time I was cleaning out the coop a big gust of wind came up and blew an entire shovel-full of dirty shavings all over me - head-to-toe. I use a snow shovel.

I also had a handful of eggs once and was trying to balance them while closing the latch on the run. One of the eggs started to slip, so I automatically squeezed to keep it, and succeeded in squishing four eggs right in my hand.

Two of those "why are we doing this again?" moments.

Oh, and no problem with animal hair here, either. Just pick it off and keep going. And I used to have a chow, so I know from hair!

I just moved today's chicks into the brooder...I have 8 EE chicks and one wheaten marans hatched out. A few wheaten marans eggs have pipped, one OE is peeping, a couple of the silkies are also peeping. The EE's were really at least 12-18 hours early - I'm hoping the rest are on time! I wonder why the EE's were early - I tried to scatter them throughout the other eggs throughout incubation, so it's not like they were all in a "hot spot" in the incubator. But out of 9 eggs that made it to lockdown, just the 8 EE's have hatched a little early.

The wheaten marans chick is on the front right in the bottom pic...

They are very cute. I haven't seen EE with that coloring, what do they feather out as adults? I'm assuming browns. I hope the rest finish pipping and all hatch out with no drama. The EE's must just be a group of over-achievers, lol.

Yes I figured it would be a pair. Their pen will be out back behind where I keep the chickens, so I hope the noise level won't be too much. I don't know why I should worry about everyone else, but I do. I have decided to do what makes me happy, although everyone can't believe it's poultry. Zach how bad will it get come next spring with mating behavior?

I think Gwen thinks I'm a goose. She starts hooking loud whenever she hears my voice. Even if i'm inside and she can hear me. She can get very loud in the nice weather. But not as loud as some I've heard. The farm I got her at only had sebies and muscovy ducks, well I guess maybe she is a duoose.
