I think Gwen thinks I'm a goose. She starts hooking loud whenever she hears my voice. Even if i'm inside and she can hear me. She can get very loud in the nice weather. But not as loud as some I've heard. The farm I got her at only had sebies and muscovy ducks, well I guess maybe she is a duoose.

I'm sure she does. Well I'm aloud to have roosters but I don't so I can keep peace with my neighbors. I'm a little too close for my liking here. We are seriously considering moving in a few years. Same area because we love it but just a little more distance with neighbors. If my neighbors dog can bark nonstop while I'm in MY yard, I think they can tolerate some occasional honking.

off to auction tomorrow. Need to get rid of 2oeg bantam pullets 1 Brahma bantam pullet 3blrw roos bantams any takers asking $5.00 each that's what I will get at the auction will post pics if any one is interested.
What auction? How does it work? I'll need to keep it in mind for the future, but I found a little farm with some older men who just started taking my extra Roos. They have lots of predators so more are welcome.
when our daughter gets out of high school my hubby promised me land.
Now that's a good hubby. Make the Mrs happy and everyone will be happy, lol.

They are very cute. I haven't seen EE with that coloring, what do they feather out as adults? I'm assuming browns. I hope the rest finish pipping and all hatch out with no drama. The EE's must just be a group of over-achievers, lol.
I'm not exactly sure how they'll look as adults, this will be my first time hatching out chicks from these guys. Axl my roo is a splash laced red. One of the girls is blue, one is a silver color. I did try to incubate the eggs twice before, but they were all clear. I was worried Axl wasn't doing his job, but a good number of these eggs developed.
There is a slight chance that my blue wheaten ameraucana roo is the father of the chicks - he's kept separate but the groups free range together occasionally. But Axl is very protective of his girls and he is pretty vigilant about letting the other roo breed.

I'll know for sure once the chicks start feathering out - if there are any that are NOT blue or splash, then the ameraucana is the dad. Axl should only produce blue/splash chicks, so no black feathers. The BW would produce 50% blue and 50% black.
But the exact pattern of each...I really can't predict. I need to learn more about chicken genetics - I am somewhat of a genetics nerd, but haven't found any good sources to learn about the genetics of chicken colors...

I would be okay with the BW roo being the dad, he's from really good lines and they are known for their egg color. But I was hoping to breed some blue laced EE's, so am hoping Axl was getting the job done! LOL

Here are the two EE hens

Most of the chicks hatched from the darker turquoise eggs - I think Rue, the girl below, lays those, but I'm not 100% sure.

Axl

And the BW ameraucana roo

I have about 5 more marans chicks out today - two more are still hatching. The one OE is almost out, I don't think the other OE is going to hatch :( And one silkie is almost out.
I finally broke down and ordered a "real" incubator - my homemade one has been doing a good job, it's been more fertility than anything, but I wonder if I could do better...LOL

They also have all sorts of farm stuff you never know what you might find. Oh bunnies lots and lots of bunnies. If you ever want a night out it really is alot of fun. Great plants etc.

Sebies are a very quite breed of goose. I used 2 have 3 Chinese They were soooooo loud. If u have just one wit a duck that is fine as for just chickens not really. I recommend having atleast 2 waterfowl together at a time they r much different then chickens. I don't know how bad mating season is I only have 2 females. I breed Muscovy ducks with are larger and have sharp nails and I don't have a problem with them just the female might loose a couple of feathers is my guess and hiss at u if u try and take their eggs

The last time I was cleaning out the coop a big gust of wind came up and blew an entire shovel-full of dirty shavings all over me - head-to-toe.  I use a snow shovel.

I also had a handful of eggs once and was trying to balance them while closing the latch on the run.  One of the eggs started to slip, so I automatically squeezed to keep it, and succeeded in squishing four eggs right in my hand.

Two of those "why are we doing this again?" moments.

Oh, and no problem with animal hair here, either.  Just pick it off and keep going.  And I used to have a chow, so I know from hair!

Half the time i don't even pick the dog hair off!
