New Jersey

Hey!

Just wanted to send a shout out to NJ. I live in NC now, but was born and raised in Burlington county. It's great to hear that so many have chickens in NJ. I really didn't think that many were around.
Hi Tiddbit74! Oh yes, there's lots of us now. I have family in Burlington county. Glad to see you pop over to say hi. So are the winters really better?

The winters are much better, though this past winter we did see some flurries. I'm still trying to used to when to start my vegetable gardens. I lived in NJ so long that it was a hard adjustment.

So, despite the bad news of losing my goose recently, there have also been some awesome happenings around here as well!

I now officially have a place to live for vet school! I went up to Ithaca last weekend with my mom to look at apartments. I originally had three lined up to see (One farmhouse with a room to rent, a house, and an apartment) but ended up only seeing two of them. Fell in love with the apartment! I will have a decent sized room with my OWN bathroom! I will be living with two others girls who are currently third years. One has a pet cat and the other has a Pomeranian. It is very exciting that I get to live with pets, but don't yet have to pay all the money for them! I will also be bringing my crested gecko and my betta fish. The apartment also has a washer and dryer right in it, and the rest of the apartment is really nice!

My lease starts in June, but I'm planning to move up end of June or beginning of July. I booked a cruise with a friend before embarking on my next schooling adventure! It will probably be that last vacation I go on for a while!

Other than that, I have just 13 days left of work and I cannot WAIT to be done! I work in EMS transport right now and it is a very draining job. We are regularly kept hours after our shift has ended because they don't have enough ambulances on the road to handle the transport volume. My managers are also not very nice to us and we are constantly yelled at and blamed for things that are not our faults. I've been counting down the days until I can leave! Just have to hold out until the end of May now. Finally, the end is in sight!

My chicks are getting big and I plan to bring the first set of roosters to auction on Tuesday. My first hatch chicks are big enough to sex and look like four out of seven are roos :-( Still having trouble sexing the turken/showgirl crosses. Some are just starting to get bigger combs, but with the black skin, it makes it difficult to tell!

One of the Turken mixes

Wasn't sure about this one, but pretty positive at this point it is a girl.

Things are starting to bloom in the herb garden!

The chickens enjoyed dust bathing yesterday

Gouda has been doing ok, but I can tell he is still a bit confused. He had to swim all by himself yesterday :-(

And just for oohs and ahhs, my friend and I went hiking yesterday and I got some really nice pictures of his Briard, Teddy Bear

Sounds awesome! What school are you going to? What animals are you going to work on?
I'm going to Cornell

It was my top choice out of all the schools I applied to because they have an amazing exotics and avian program! At the moment, I want to work with birds, but I wouldn't mind going the exotic/zoo animal route. I'm interested to see if I stick with that path because it seems like a lot of people change course through their four years!

My husband are thinking of moving to NC! We are looking at areas around hendersonville, charlotte, and a few other places.

best news! Don't forget to contact me if you're interested in an externship or seasonal employment. I know its a drive for you but pm me even if you'd like a tour before you go!

Llandry, you're definitely on my list! I was very excited to hear about the externship. Looks like we get some nice breaks in between blocks, so that may be great during a break. I will surely keep your info handy!
