new keeper in MA: mypetchicken OR meyers hatchery?

:welcome

I haven't ordered from either one, but I've read quite a few BYC members report they are happy with both of them. You're likely to hear good and bad on any place you get your chicks from so go with which ever one makes the most sense to you.

ETA: I believe Meyer supplies some of the chicks that MPC sells (at least, that's what I've read on BYC).

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

I have never used either of these hatcheries. But as stated above, most people leave negative reviews, rarely does someone with a positive experience post how great something is. Its easier to complain than rave about how great something is. I wouldn't cancel your order. I am sure you will enjoy these birds!

Good luck and welcome to our roost! :)

People are more inclined to leave negative reviews than positive ones. What I mean is, for every negative review there are likely way more positive experiences that no one bothered to leave a review. I tend to not believe online reviews so much and just form my own opinion from my own experience. I ordered roughly 20 chicks from Meyer Hatchery. Just got the brown egg layer assortment. All survived and arrived on time. Pretty uneventful experience. But I guess that's good news when live animals are involved.

Yep, my flock came from "Polk, OH" and were ordered via MPC. Tracking and packing slips confirmed the origination. I doubt the MPC is an actual hatchery vs internet based drop shipper, but willing to be wrong. The shipping materials did not identify Meyers as the source though.

Welcome to BYC and hope you enjoy your time here. I would consider comparison shopping between those two just as the shipping(edit-cost) from MPC was the one point I do remember. However, if you look on the US postal rates for day old chicks(yes they are a unique class of post) it is expensive.
