How old are your pullets? It usually helps to keep chickens closed inside the coop for a few days to a week so they learn where "home" is, maybe place them on the roost if necessary... then soon they will return on their own at dusk.

There's many different coop management systems and a lot depends on how much space you have. I only clean out the shavings in my coop once a year because I have a poop tray that catches most of the droppings at night, and birds spend the day outside in the run. The tray is filled with Sweet PDZ and I scoop it daily like cat litter. Old coop litter goes in the run, old run litter goes in the compost bin as well as daily droppings. I get some really nice composted garden soil every year with this system.
