This is my first time with chickens, so egg laying is as new to me as it is to my 18 week pullets.

I've had 4 of 12 pullets begin laying this week. One ISA Started on Sunday and has laid an egg every day. She is five for five. Girlfriend needs to slow down. Another ISA started laying yesterday and laid again today. Two Black sex links laid an egg on Tuesday. Neither laid on Wednesday. One laid again today, but the other hasn't.

The one that hasn't did spend a fair amount of time in her nester today. Her behavior other than that seems fine. Comb has good color, eating, (I haven't seen her poop yet, but haven't been watching either) she squats in front of me when I enter the coop or run, doesn't seemed to be stressed, she is not panting. Everything seems okay, it's just she didn't lay today when she spent time in her nesting box.

When should I worry about egg binding? How can I tell if she is? Since she is a new layer, will it take a while for her to be consistent?

Thanks for all the help!

i would say there is nothing consistent about newbie layers. Sometimes they lay a few then break while the body is still ramping up. I call the first few stretchers. Lol do love those double and triple yolks tho.
I don’t have binding advice and am interested to hear how you tell. I know I wouldn’t be concerned about binding at this stage of the game.

This is my first time too, my girl laid 5 days in a row, took a day off, then started right back up again. I did learn, it's about 26 hours between eggs. She had started with the first at 8am and by the time we got to day 5 she laid at 3:30pm. On day 7 she laid at 8:30am again. Interesting stuff for sure! Good luck with your pullets. :)
